Just like our parents before us
Their parents as well, and so on
We too have the same dreams
Aspirations, trials and tribulations and fears
Doubts about the future for us
And worry about our children's fate.
I always wondered, why it happens
When we all grew up on the same diet
Of sitcoms, fast food, bad jokes, an occasional riot.
Even if we practiced the same religion
Voted, participated in the existing political system,
Performed our jobs in a similar workplace
Spent our hard earned monies in the same marketplace
Why are then our differences: can only be measured
In tons and miles rather than grams and inches
Or using such words is immeasurable or overwhelmingly great?
